Biopurification of Mine Wastewater through Aquatic Plants– A Review

    Get PDF
Bio-purification of wastewater through aquatic plants is an advanced technology of wastewater purification. Aquatic plants can be used for tertiary treatment of wastewater due to its capacity to assimilate nutrients. This invention uses a cheap and efficient, ecologically safe detoxification of industrial and coal mine wastewater and production of biomass. The advantages of this invention result with no pollution of hazardous substances and cost benefits. This paper briefly highlights on the role of aquatic plants for the purification of mine waste wate

Conservation of water and checking soil erosion is central to the attainment of economic as well as financial sustainability of dry land and agriculture. Integrated Watershed Development Programme, which is proposed by the Government of India, is a major policy instrument for achieving this goal. The importance of watershed development as a strategy of agricultural and overall rural development in rain-fed areas has been recognized in India for the past several decades, and in the recent years has grown exponentially. Recent check-dams constructed over the micro watersheds like the ones in Bidar, Ahmedabad, Latur, Guna, Tumkur, spanning throughout the length and breadth of the nation, and its successful implementation shows it's universal applicability. However, it is to be kept in mind that the implementation of check dam construction in a micro watershed based ecology dates back to the establishment of four dry farming research stations at Rohtak, Sholapur, Hyderabad and Bellary in early 30's, which led to the advancement in the recent technological augmentatio

GROWTH OF TERMINALIA BELLIRICA [(GAERTN.) ROXB.] ON THE MALANJKHAND COPPER MINE OVERBURDEN DUMP SPOIL MATERIAL

Copper Mining at Malanjkhand copper mining project (MCP), Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh is a subsidiary of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), major source of copper and more than 70% is being contributed from this mines. Copper contamination issues are becoming increasingly common in India with many documented cases of copper metal toxicity in mining sites. Effect of Copper on vegetation was studies by growth of Baheda (Terminalia bellirica) with different combination of soil, copper over burden dump spoil and cowdung manure. This paper in brief reflected that the growth of this plant species significantly improved with the combination of soil and organic manure like cowdung applied in the different combination with copper mine overburden dump spoil material which will be helpful in the re-vegetation program of these type of wasteland

    Effects o f Algal Bio Fertilizer o n t he Growth o f Vigna Radiata

India in its agricultural domain is encountering the problem of feeding the growing population along with using the land sustainably. The use of chemical fertilizers has massively increased the rate of production but indiscriminate use of these chemical fertilizers has further mystified the natural system and have caused many environmental and health related problems. Due to direct uses of chemical and inorganic fertilizers drastic problems has been arisen and the fertility has been decreased since last decades. Algal bio-fertilizers is an emerging option for the present farming era. The aim of this work is an extension of approach towards cultivating Vigna radiata, a leguminous plant treated with algal bio-fertilizer and is compared with the different chemical fertilizers to notice the growth parameters which is a biotechnological approach. A pot experiment was carried out for 60 days to evaluate the effect of algal bio-fertilizer on Vigna radiata by comparing the growth parameters with respect to FYM, NPK and combination of these three. A finding of the experiment reveals that the treatment of algal bio-fertilizer in combination with FYM showed significant result than the other treatments. The principle of this study is the simple and basic approach for using algae as a bio-fertilizer and large scale experiment has to be conducted in future to prove the sustainability of this approach

Construction of Check Dam in Microwater-Shed Areas in Tundi Block of District Dhanbad, Jharkhand

This paper envisages the ecological and civil engineering aspect of check-dam construction in a micro watershed environment for preventing possible soil erosion and silt wastage due to strong current by small streams or river tributaries. The field study was done for checking the feasibility of construction of check-dam over Keshka River, in Tundi block of district Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The physical, ecological, social and economic factors were also noticed during the evaluation of the check-dam. It was observed that the river tributary at Keshka had one of the most unpredictable water current and thus, a proposed check-dam would , firstly, check any abrupt increase in the water flow in the this area. Secondly, due to the strong current of the river, the gully erosion is quite heavily prevalently noticed in the area which can further lead to the decrement of soil quality and basic soil texture, due to silt wastage. Also, considering the ecological aspect, the water if controlled can be used in the near-by irrigation purpose, through which farmers having their land(s) adjoining to the proposed check-dam, would have a high moisture content, and thus, they could enhance the soil water percolation rate of their soil, and on an overall scenario, the ecological aspects also can be enhanced of this area.Further, this will increase ground water level in nearby areas through quick recharge of drinking as well as irrigation wells

Effect of Different Mining Dust on the Vegetation of District Balaghat, M.P - A Critical Review

    Get PDF
Industrialization had increased requirement of more energy with mining for more minerals resultant pollution. Soil pollution due to different mining dust has become problem in district Balaghat, M.P beside that dust deposition on the surface of vegetation affects photosynthesis and growth of common plants nearby the mining areas. This review articles describes briefly the various mining sites in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, India and dust chemical characteristics which had many effects on vegetation and soil. The physical and chemical characteristics of a range of mining dust types are explained and its effects on photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration. Plants growing on this atmosphere show a reduction in growth performance and yield. Visible injury symptoms and decreased in productivity on vegetation is well noticed. Most of the plant community structure is altered. However, there have been very few detailed studies on natural and semi-natural systems and some dust types are also much understudied. Recommendations for future research are made in order to overcome this knowledge ga
